Advertising policy
We want ads that readers find useful and that we are happy to stand next to. This policy tells advertisers what we accept and refuse.
How ads are labelled
- Every ad space carries the label "Ad". When we run our own promotion in an ad space, it is labelled "RahisiBook".
- Every paid article is labelled "Sponsored" and says who paid for it.
- Paid links in sponsored articles are marked as sponsored in the page code.
- Ads never look like articles or pretend to be news.
What we accept
- Salons, spas, barbershops and beauty professionals
- Hair, skin and beauty products from honest sellers
- Events, venues, organizers and ticket sellers
- Local businesses and services that suit our readers
- Offers that are clear about the price and the conditions
What we refuse
- Adult content, or anything not suitable for a general audience
- Betting, gambling and lotteries
- Illegal goods or services, and counterfeit products
- Skin lightening or bleaching products
- Medicines, cures or health claims that are unregistered or cannot be backed up
- Loans or investment offers that hide fees, promise guaranteed returns or look like get-rich-quick or pyramid schemes
- Political campaigns and political parties
- Hate, harassment, or content that puts down people for who they are
- Ads that imitate another business, person or organization
- Fake "before and after" pictures, invented reviews or testimonials, and promises of guaranteed results
- Anything misleading, such as fake countdown timers, buttons that look like site buttons, or links that go somewhere other than what the ad says
- Tobacco and vaping products
Alcohol is only accepted from events and venues, for adult audiences, with no encouragement to drink too much. Ask us if you are unsure.
Our right to decide
We can refuse or remove any ad or sponsored article that breaks this policy, or that we think readers would find misleading or unsafe. If we remove an ad, we will tell you why. We may ask to see proof of claims, such as an offer, a licence or a business registration.
Editorial independence
Advertisers cannot change what we write in our own articles, and an ad never changes our opinion in an article. In a sponsored article, the advertiser can approve the facts about their business, and we will not publish claims we think are false.
